Spring ?

*     It’s been one of the coldest, longest winters I can remember and looks set to continue for a while longer. Walks have seen us wrapped up against the icy Arctic winds from the East and, for some of the time at least, making our way through snow.

On a more domestic note, hardy primulas and crocuses provide a cheery splash of colour in their little terracotta pots by our front door.

Beautiful Bowland

*   March began with a visit to York and we were thrilled to be there during their annual Viking festival. The city was crammed with Viking enthusiasts, many who had travelled from Scandinavian countries to join the fun. The bustling street markets sold many hand-made wares and enthusiasts were bedecked in a stunning array of authentic costumes in  sumptuous textiles and colours…..

*   On a more humorous note the sight of three Vikings in full regalia having a heated debate in Danish in the middle of a York car park regarding where they had parked the Long Boat/car ( or at least that’s what my interpretation was since I don’t speak a word of Danish)

*   Holy Trinity Church in the heart of York looked beautiful in the winter sunshine, the first signs of spring evident in the snowdrops and yellow anemones.

*   A visit to the truly wonderful ‘Make Your Mark’ stamp shop for CC to help minimise his marking. The owner of this shop custom makes her stamps and the selection is amazing.

*   More recently we have enjoyed more walks in Bowland and a marvellous visit to the CB Inn in Arkengarthdale in the Yorkshire Dales. Making our way down the valley we followed an old railway line, a remnant of the lead mining which used to take place in this area. The inside of a tunnel looked beautiful with its icicles and stalactites encrusted in a flower-like formation.
